Barcelona's low-emission zone (ZBE) and supercars: what you can drive, and when
Barcelona restricts access to its ring-road interior by emissions label on weekdays. Which supercars can enter, why a hybrid Turbo S is unrestricted, and what changes in 2028.

How the zone works
Barcelona's Zona de Bajas Emissions is enforced by cameras reading number plates against the DGT's vehicle register. Spanish-registered cars need no sticker on the windscreen and no prior registration; the camera already knows the label. Foreign-registered cars must register in advance, which is one more reason to rent locally rather than drive down from abroad.
Outside the hours, and at weekends, any car may enter. Inside the hours, the label decides.

The distinction matters most for pick-up and return. A hotel on Passeig de Gràcia or in the Eixample is inside the zone; a Monday morning handover there is straightforward with an ECO car and a paperwork question with a C car during a pollution episode.
What 2028 changes
From 1 January 2028 Catalan low-emission zones exclude B-label vehicles, and Barcelona has signalled that C-label restrictions during episodes will become more frequent. Nothing changes for ECO and 0 labels. A rental fleet bought today for a five-year life should be ECO or better; the hybrid Turbo S is the only 911 that qualifies.
Where the zone ends and the driving begins
The ZBE is a city rule. Ten minutes out on the C-32 or the AP-7 it is irrelevant. The Costa Brava, Montserrat, the Priorat and Andorra have no low-emission zones at all. Treat the ZBE as a question about where you sleep and where the car is delivered, not about where you drive.
Frequently asked
Is the ZBE active at weekends? No. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are unrestricted for every label.
Will I be fined in a rental car? The fine goes to the registered keeper, the rental company, which identifies the driver and passes it on. With an ECO car there is nothing to pass on.
Does El Prat airport sit inside the zone? No. The airport is outside; the restriction starts at the Rondes.
