Can you drive a Barcelona rental car to Andorra or France?
What Spanish law, insurers and rental contracts say about crossing the border in a rented supercar, which countries are usually allowed, and what it costs.

Who decides: not the police, the insurer
Nothing in Spanish traffic law stops a rented car crossing a border. The limit comes from the insurance policy, which prices risk by country, and from the rental contract that passes those limits to you. Every reputable operator lists allowed countries in its terms. If a country is not listed, assume it is excluded.
Andorra
Andorra is the easiest trip: 200 km from Barcelona on the C-16 and the C-14, no motorway tolls, a border with a customs check and no passport control for EU visitors. Fuel is cheaper. The roads up to Port d'Envalira are among the best in the Pyrenees. Almost every Barcelona rental company allows Andorra, usually for the same fee as France.
France
The border on the AP-7 at La Jonquera is 160 km from Barcelona. Collioure, Céret and the road over the Col de Banyuls are within a day. France is allowed by most Spanish operators with notice and a fee; the fee covers the extra insurance territory and the paperwork if the car breaks down abroad. French motorways are tolled; French speed cameras find Spanish plates just as well as French ones.
Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom
For Porsches and other cars in this class, insurers in Spain commonly exclude Italy on theft risk, Portugal on distance from base, and the UK on repatriation cost. Some mainstream renters allow Portugal on ordinary cars; supercars are treated differently. Ask, but expect no.
What happens if you do not declare it
The policy is void outside its territory. A breakdown in France becomes your recovery bill; damage becomes your repair bill, without the excess cap. The rental company also finds out, because the car has telematics and because French fines arrive with a location. It is not worth it for a €60 fee.
Practical checklist
- Tell the operator your route at booking or at least 24 hours before departure.
- Carry the rental contract and the insurance certificate; French and Andorran police ask for both.
- Non-EU licence holders need the International Driving Permit in France too.
- Note the emergency and breakdown numbers in the contract; they differ by country.
- Keep the kilometre allowance in mind. Barcelona to Andorra and back is 400 km.
